Many of the people who made Strathfield Synagogue what it was are no longer alive. These men and women set an example of dedication to communal service, giving their own time and energy for the general good.

Wilhelm Hirsch always stood throughout the service. His seat was the last in the row and he would sometimes lean his left shoulder lightly against the wall. On shabbatot it was invariably Mr Hirsch who read from the Torah. Often, he was the only member of the minyan who was capable of doing so. Without him, the Shabbat service would not have included the Reading of the Law.
Sam Steiff served as President of the synagogue and was instrumental in raising the funds to pay off the synagogue's mortgage. Sam was also instrumental in saving the synagogue's archival records. Click here for his published obituary.
