Classrooms
The old mansion at 19 Florence St. Sunday School classes were held in all its rooms, the large downstairs room with the double windows being Miss Boaz' classroom. The synagogue itself, with its double windows facing east, was on the top floor. The photo was apparently taken in September 1959. |
Demonstration Seder, 1966
The demonstration seder was an annual event involving children and parents alike. While the children were coached in reading the Haggada, the parents were enlisted to provide the food. One family would bring the hard-boiled eggs, another the matzot and a third the charoseth. At the head table, from left to right, Rev. Michael Mandel (standing), Dr Victor Eppel, Aaron Shaw and Judah Cohen. If you can identify yourself as one of the children in either photo, please write in by clicking the contact button on the home page. Photos contributed by Bev Brandon. |
Clipping from the Jewish News, May, 1966
Children of Strathfield Synagogue Hebrew classes recently celebrated Israel’s 18th Independence Day at a function organised by Rev. A. Sternfein and the JNF Education Department.
The ceremony opened with the children parading the Israel flag into the Synagogue, followed by a service conducted by the youth.
After the service the Israel flag was raised in the Synagogue grounds and a JNF tree planted by two members of the Hebrew school.
